Training programmes:
Leading Sustainable Development
Living Earth Foundation, in partnership with the London Region of the Open College Network, has developed a model of accredited, externally-moderated and structured training programmes. These programmes aim to build the capacity of local government and key stakeholders from NGOs, private sector and community organisations to effectively promote sustainable social, environmental and economic development.
Following initial training needs assessments, Living Earth works with OCN to provide a tailored programme to meet the needs of the participants.
Programme Design:
Typically each programme takes place over the course of one calendar year. The course consists of six units, equivalent to about 180 hours of learning. The delivery plan comprises of training workshops, learner support workshops, Evidence of Learning Tasks (practical assignments documented by the learner to demonstrate his/her ability to put into practice skills and knowledge acquired) and the keeping of a personal portfolio compiled by each participant continuously throughout the year.
Peer support is provided through learners’ circles – groups of 5 or so participants – which meet during the periods between workshops to share ideas and advice. Quality of teaching and learning on the course is assured by the involvement of the Open College Network’s independent external reviewer.
The course units are drawn from the following. You can find out more about these units by clicking on the links below:
